We are Wilson. Barton College is a four-year, private, liberal arts college located in the heart of Wilson, N.C. The College, founded by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North Carolina in 1902, celebrates the rich heritage of this community alongside St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and other institutional leaders who have nurtured and strengthened this engaging city during the past century and beyond.
The Barton Experience focuses on academic excellence within a wide range of professional and liberal arts programs leading to baccalaureate and master’s degrees. Barton celebrates bold thinking among faculty and staff as the College nurtures bold leadership development among students. Purposeful academic internships and practicums, engaging co-curricular cohorts, an impressive array of cultural events, and diverse athletic competition provide meaningful experiences for students. Two signature events anchor the College’s academic year — the fall “Day of Service” provides opportunities for students to give back as they provide community service across the city of Wilson, while the spring “Day of Scholarship” provides another opportunity for the Wilson community to come to campus to engage with faculty and students as they present scholarly research.
Barton College believes each student has a “place at the table”; its smaller size and strong sense of community provide a supportive and collaborative learning environment. By recognizing each student’s unique story, potential to succeed, and distinctive goals, the Barton community fosters intellectual, spiritual, and emotional development through intentional experiences, inside and outside the classroom. Barton’s integrated programs, services, and experiences help to actively engage students in discovering their sense of self and place in the world. And, the active engagement in these experiences forms insightful and ethical leaders prepared to serve the greater good.
Barton College takes great pride in its hometown community of Wilson. The College values its relationships across the city and is especially appreciative of the warm hospitality we always receive at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. Together, we are Wilson.
